Falling in Love with your Best Friend

Real love is rich, pure, self-sacrificing. Falling in love with my best friend was the best thing to happen to me in years. It happened so slowly. I never expected it to happen. When I say falling in love with your best friend, I don’t mean romantic love. I knew I was in love with my best friend when I began to fall in love with her passions and goals. I even fell in love with the love she gave me. Friendships are one of life’s greatest joys. Friends accept us for who we are and have the guts to tell us when we mess up. I don’t know how many days I’ve woken up in the middle of the night just to hear her voice. With friendships, we may not talk, or see them as often as we would like for various  but it’s real love in the friendship when there’s vulnerability, consistency, and positive energy.

The only way to describe my energy for my best friend is when I WANT to invite her bragging. To listen to what she’s so proud and passionate about, it encourages me to find my passions. Only genuine love allows you to be so happy for another for every reason under the sun. On the other hand, we both busy. There’s barely any time between any of our schedules to have a long five-hour conversation to catch each other up, but because of our love for each other, we know how to get to the matter quickly. A quick: “What’s one thing going good and what’s one thing you KNOW you need to work on?” is always a simple solution. I knew the moment I fell in love with my best friend that we were both in this for life, there was no giving each other up.

To my dear friend, there is no way I can possibly stop loving you and being in love with you. You are the sunshine in my day, you are that random fifty-dollar deposit in my account, you are that class cancelled, and at times, you are the lifeline that I need when I feel as if I’m drowning. I can’t begin to thank you enough for allowing me to fall in love with you…and yes I do mean thank you. Meeting you was an amazing experience, but falling for you was even better. I never have to feel small when I am next to you. I never need to be reassured of our friendship. You push me everyday, at times when you don;t even notice it. You get me out of situations that I don’t even know I need to get out of. You keep me grounded and you’re always honest with me.

Falling in love with you,

Is almost like getting splinter

You don’t notice until you feel that minor burn

It’s almost one of the hardest things

to get rid of.

It’s small but may be one of

the greatest pains you could experience.

Falling in love with you

is hard to put into words

because I don’t know at what

specific point it happened,

but I feel it everyday.

I feel it on days when we talk for hours,

I feel it on days we don’t talk,

and I know its love because when I think of you,

my mood changes instantly, my smile grows

a little bigger, and my eyes grow a little wider,

and I know that my love will forever be reciprocated

by you, my friend.
